With thefts of valuable military collections and work-in-progress and beloved projects sold for scrap value, Rural Property Watch are offering militaria collectors security systems which can work in remote outbuildings with electricity and telephone connections.

How can you secure your historic military vehicle collection or project? Be alert to Intrusion, Fire and Flood!

Theft of scrap metal is still escalating in the United Kingdom and the theft of fuel, batteries and other vehicle related items is also rising so Rural Property Watch (www.ruralpropertywatch.co.uk) offers a cost-effective solution for owners of historic military vehicles.

Whilst such vehicles and ongoing restoration projects are not scrap items, they are not always viewed as historic items by everyone else.

Many collectors store their precious vehicles in a remote storage location, maybe a remote barn or outbuilding without electricity or telephone connection where traditional alarms are not an option.

As military vehicle collectors know, the loss of engine hatches on, say, a Daimler Ferret, Daimler Dingo or even a Vickers FV 432 would be hard to replace with a genuine item and costly to fabricate convincingly . The chassis of a Humber box, a transfer box for a Dodge Weapons carrier, the list is endless. The reality being that the financial gain for the thief is low but the cost to the collector in terms of replacement almost certainly outweighs the scrap value.

Rural Property Watch offer remote self-powered alarm systems that can alert owners to intrusions into their garages, barn or storage facility. They have a range of security systems that utilise both GSM and GPRS technology. All equipment have been awarded the “Secured by design” rating so are approved by UK Police forces.

GSM alarm systems act as a remote wireless security device for your premises. In the event of a GSM alarm being triggered, a text message will be forwarded immediately to your mobile phone and pre-configured telephone numbers via SMS, thus raising the alarm allowing you to make an immediate investigation of the activation.

GSM systems simply require the user to install a standard SIM card. Typically users spend between £7.50 – £10.00 per month depending on how many people the status and alarm messages are sent to, so budget for £90 – £120 per year.

You will need to supply your own SIM card for use in our GSM devices. This can be a contract SIM or a Pay-as-you-go SIM. We recommend either O2 or Vodafone SIM’s as these networks have the best national coverage (in the UK), however, users are encouraged to use whichever network has the best signal strength in the area where the system is located.

Our GPRS alarm systems, on the other hand, are fully monitored, meaning that any activation alerts are sent directly to an Alarm Receiving Centre. If the ARC is notified of activation they will immediately contact the registered keyholders and advise them of the activated alarm.

Status messages such as “armed”, “disarmed”, “battery status” etc. are sent via email to the users email account. With a smart phone those messages can be received anywhere you have coverage.

In addition to the above all of our GPRS alarm systems are accessible via a PIN, remotely, 24/7 through our secure online server. This allows you to monitor the status of the GPRS system, down to each individual detector connected to it, from anywhere in the world.

GPRS systems require a specific type of SIM card and this is supplied with the system at a cost of £60 per year (paid in one upfront payment). Monitoring charges are £70 per year (paid in one upfront payment). Total £130 per year.

Discounts on the purchase are available from Rural Property Watch for museums and registered charities.

As soon as Christmas was over, the shops were talking about Easter.

And now, whilst the delights of the summer sunshine are still fresh in our minds, Britain was warned yesterday of another big freeze this winter – with snow expected to sweep in as early as next month.

Climate change does not mean that there will be no severe cold weather conditions during the winter months; it means that the weather will be less predictable and that there may well be greater extremes.

Now, temperatures are forecast to drop to below average for the time of year over the next few months.

The early onset of winter was predicted by experts at Exacta Weather.

Long-range forecaster James Madden said on its website: “As we head towards winter, I expect to see the first signs of some moderate to heavy snowfalls as early as October or November in certain parts of the UK.”

“I expect December, January, and February to experience below-average temperatures, with the heaviest snowfalls occurring within the time frame of November to January across many parts of the UK.”

The UK and Ireland would be hit by “prolonged periods of extreme cold and snow from the Arctic regions as cold easterlies or north-easterlies develop”.

Mr Madden said: “Huge swirly low-pressure systems also offer the potential for widespread disruption from heavy snowfall across many parts of the UK including the South, as they clash with the predominant cold air.”

Basingstoke-based Hampshire Snow Clearance is reminding Facilities Managers and commercial property managing agents about the perils of snow and ice, especially with changes in legislation relating to prevention of slips and falls.

Hampshire Snow Clearance (www.hampshiresnowclearance.co.uk), a division of Facilities Resource Limited, operates a specialist snow clearance and early morning gritting service for commercial premises, retail parks, industrial estates, private schools and car parks in the Basingstoke and Hook areas of Hampshire.

Hampshire Snow Clearance Managing Director John Hicks explained, “Last winter caught out many Facilities Managers when the unexpected snow and ice put the safety of staff and customers at risk, caused inconvenience to many and resulted in loss of working days”.

“However, it is too late to start thinking about gritting paths, ice removal and snow clearance when waking up early one morning to find slippery ice on the pavements and roads. So we urge Facilities Managers to think about booking services now.” John added.

Hampshire Snow Clearance service also offers a gritting supplies and off-site storage facility so that businesses do not have unsightly grit and salt stocks occupying valuable car parking spaces.

Give Hampshire Snow Clearance now a call on 01256 220561 for a free site survey and quotation – don’t wait until the big freeze returns! Call now and help keep your staff and visitors safe.

Radio UK International reports that Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her London apartment at the infamous age of 27. The cause of death isn’t known yet, but Amy has struggled with heavy alcohol and drug use, which many are assuming played a role in her death.

Over the past few years, the English singer/songwriter has become more known for her on-stage breakdowns and public displays of debauchery than anything having to do with her music. The tabloids have feasted on a clearly troubled young woman, and we’ve all watched as things seemed to get worse and worse.

Hopefully Amy Winehouse will be remembered for her immense talent.

RIP Amy Winehouse.

Heating oil thefts in rural areas across the UK have risen by about 70% in recent months, according to Police warnings.

Increasing fuel prices and the isolated location of many properties are thought to be factors. More than 1.5m homes across the UK, mostly in rural areas, are dependent on heating oil.

How can you combat theft from fuel tanks at a sensible cost?

Rural Property Watch offers a fuel loss detection system and tank alarms which alerts your mobile phone via SMS text message of a sudden loss, alerting you to the fact that someone is stealing your oil, or that the tank has ruptured.

The system can also be linked to a high-pitched alarm to deter thieves from remaining on site.

It should be borne in mind that, whilst thieves may only just steal only a fraction of what’s in your tank, the hole in your tank may well continue to leak once they have departed so, not only do you suffer a complete loss, but the proper environmental pollution clean-up costs may be significant.

Whilst Police have advised residents to install tank locks and alarms, the Environment Agency said the possible impact on water sources is very often overlooked.

Environment Agency spokesman Shaun Rowson said: “Being able to act quickly is vital to stop oil pollution spreading and, potentially, reaching important underground water supplies.”

The agency said storage tanks were often damaged by thieves and could leak oil into any nearby water.

Cleaning up after a contamination of surface water or groundwater can cost thousands of pounds.

“We would therefore urge people to contact us as quickly as possible if they think there is any risk of pollution as a result of oil theft. This will help to minimise the potential impact on the environment, the public and the homeowner.” Mr Rowson added.

The Rural Property Watch system gives you immediate warning of a problem.

Rural Property Watch also offers a commercial version of this system, linked to a 24 hour Control Room and capable of monitoring large fuel oil tanks. They also offer mobile security patrols and key holder services.

Rural Property Watch can also supply heating oil tank locks and wireless alarm systems.

Harwell Security provide a wide range of security solutions, from manned guarding and keyholder services through to alarm response key holders and out-of-hours mobile security patrol visits, and retail security guards – and including security reception staff, concierges and event security stewards.

Harwell Security (www.harwellsecurity.com) operates throughout Oxfordshire and west Berkshire including Didcot, Aylesbury, Oxford, Reading, Newbury, Tadley, Aldermaston, Wantage, Witney and Faringdon as well as Harwell itself.

Harwell Security, part of the Facilities Resource Limited group (www.facilitiesresource.com), can provide a flexible and responsive service at competitive rates.
Harwell Security’s sister company is Asset Fencing (www.assetfencing.com) which offers physical security measures ranging from security fencing, intruder alarms, security lights and access controls through to CCTV camera systems and CCTV maintenance.

The company also has a specialist team handling Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM), known as electronics counter surveillance, security sweeps or de-bugging, to give peace of mind to corporate clients who may be under threat from electronic surveillance. Their team has the latest advanced professional passive and electronics counter surveillance equipment to search for and locate surveillance devices, or ‘bugs’, spy cameras, computer hacking and stalking of staff.

All staff have SIA-accreditation and many have full counter-terrorism clearance (CT) allowing them to undertake security work in List X buildings.

Harwell Security (www.harwellsecurity.com) currently has a full-time job vacancy for an experienced SIA-badged night time mobile security patrol officer with CT clearance (or the ability to obtain it) to check on premises in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Hampshire. Must have smart appearance and good command of written and spoken English – and must have a clean driving licence and live within 20 minutes of Harwell. Good rate of pay for 4 nights on, 4 nights off. Occasional opportunities for overtime with Harwell Security and our sister companies Basingstoke Security (www.BasingstokeSecurity.com) and Staines Security (www.StainesSecurity.com).

To apply, please e-mail jobs@harwellsecurity.com (kindly do not telephone as we are unable to handle the volume of enquiries we receive – and please do not apply unless you can satisfy all the requirements stated).

Radio Bracknell is pleased to announce that the latest footfall results show that on a like-for-like basis with the figures achieved in 2010, visitors to Princess Square in February were up 4.2%.

Bracknell is seeing a busier, more vibrant town centre as the rolling 12 month cumulative figure rose by 3.7% compared to 2009/2010, with Bracknell drawing in over 5 million shoppers.

Rob Morris, Retail Manager, Bracknell Regeneration Partnership comments: “These results are a positive indication of the support for Bracknell town centre from the local area. They are a fantastic boost for the town’s confidence and we look forward to seeing continued growing results throughout 2011.”

After a very successful recruiting campaign last year – Territorial Army, Army Air Corps Squadron based at Middle Wallop – 655 Squadron Army Air Corps (Volunteers), will be holding another recruiting event at the Museum of Army Flying, Middle Wallop, on Tuesday the 15th March, from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

655 Squadron will be looking for recruits to join them, and are hoping that anyone who is interested in finding our more about the Squadron will pop along to the Museum on the 15th.

During the evening visitors will be able to see and visit a range of demonstrations and recruiting stands, which will include information on joining the Territorial Army and in particular joining the Army Air Corps, how much training is involved and what opportunities are available. There will also be information on career options, Adventure Training opportunities, and detailed information on serving with the Regulars Forces during operations, such as Afghanistan.

655 Squadron, which was formed last year, is the first of its kind to be formed in the South and is part of the only Territorial Army, Army Air Corps Regiment in the country – 6 Regiment, Army Air Corps. They have a sister Squadron, 677 Squadron, based at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.

Their role is to deliver Attack Helicopter (the Apache) and Lynx Helicopter trained ground crew who are able to deploy on operations and support training exercises.

The Territorials will be trained to refuel and re-arm the Apache and the Lynx and this will include training to load missiles, rockets and refuelling the aircraft – using training techniques and procedures used in Formula1 Racing.

Capt Neil Jennings who is the administration officer based at the new Squadron said, “We are still heavily recruiting for ground crew posts within the Sqn and we also have opportunities available as AGC (SPS) and Medics, more importantly two of our soldiers who joined us last year, directly from our very first recruiting campaign have been mobilised to serve with the Regulars in Afghanistan, and they are training with their Regular Regiment at Wattisham in Suffolk now.”

When fully operational the Squadron will be 120 personnel strong.

Capt Jennings continued, “We train each Tuesday between 7.30 and 9.30 as well as one weekend a month, and one of the real attractions is that Middle Wallop is the Army Aviation Centre, and we are able to use all their facilities including training with the Helicopters, anyone who is interested can call us on 01264 784491, or visit www.serfca.org and search for 655 Squadron Open Evening, on Unit web pages ”
