The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) triumphed at the Southern Area Rescue challenge to reach an impressive first place.
The team (pictured below), comprising of Paul Maynard, Ian Handley, Matt Fairlie, Seth Juby and Adam Stevens, travelled to the headquarters of reigning world champions Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services in Eastleigh on Saturday 26th June.
Pitting their skills against teams from across the south, including London, Dorset, Devon and Somerset, Kent, East Sussex and Surrey, the RBFRS completed a series of realistic complex road traffic collision scenarios to see if they were up to challenge.
Paul Maynard, Group Manager for Response and the team’s incident commander, said: “This was our first challenge of the year, so we’re really pleased to have come first – it makes all our training and hard work worthwhile.”
The team came first in three out of the five scoring categories which were comprised of best incident commander, technical skills, medical skills, trauma rescue, and best team overall. RBFRS are now in preparation for the UK national challenge in Scotland in September, and the World Challenge in Germany in October.
