Bracknell Schools are yet to back Green Britain Day

EDF Energy is set to launch Green Britain Day on 10th July but Bracknell Forest Schools are yet to get involved.

Encouraging action against climate change, Green Britain Day calls for people across the country to do something green for one day to help Britain become more eco-friendly and lower it’s carbon footprint.

Suggested activities include leaving the car behind for a day, sharing energy by watching TV with friends or throwing a clothes swap party.

Green Britain day kicks off at The Eden Project in Cornwall with a concert headlined by Paul Weller and featuring celebrated newcomers Florence and the Machine.

Another well-known supporter is double paralympic medalist Eleanor Simmonds, who is getting involved through her school but took time out to chat to Radio Bracknell’s Breakfast Show presenter, John Hicks, this week. That interview will be repeated in The Sunday Show with Chris Brant this weekend.

Across the nation schools have been encouraged to do something green for Green Britain Day and over 750 have signed up so far. They will be opening their school gates to showcase positive environmental actions made by pupils and teachers alike, from planting trees to recyling initatives.

However despite the vast number of schools throughout the country getting involved, it would appear that news of Green Britain Day is yet to make an impact in the borough. The Emmbrook School, Wokingham; St Mary’s School, Ascot and Holy Trinity C of E Primary, also in Ascot, are just some of the local schools who currently have no plans in place for Green Britain Day.
