An Eden Project initiative has been embraced by Rowan’s Children Centre in Bracknell, who are holding a Big Lunch picnic event on Friday 24th July. The Big Lunch, created by Tim Smit and friends at the Eden Project in Cornwall, calls for neighbours, friends and colleagues across the country to sit down together and share a lunch in order to promote the spirit of community.
Rowan’s Children Centre, based in Pondmoor Road, Easthampstead, is holding a local event to support the scheme. Families with children under 5 are being welcomed to the centre from 12.30pm on 24th July to enjoy a fun-packed afternoon with activities and a chance to meet other local families.
Martin Gocke, chief officer for access and inclusion at Bracknell Forest Council praised the scheme, saying: “The Big Lunch is a great opportunity for people to get together and spend time with their neighbours, friends and families. As well as being good fun, events like this help build stronger communities.”
The two-hour event will also give local families the opportunity to meet Bracknell’s new play rangers and to learn more about the services on offer at Rowan’s Children Centre, which is one of six family centres in the borough.
Guests are asked to bring their own picnics and to walk to the event as parking is limited. For further information on The Big Lunch visit www.thebiglunch.com
