The Product Safety team at Sygenta in Bracknell wanted to help improve the lives of subsistence farmers in Uganda so they have set about raising £10,000 by cycling the 520 miles from their Jealott’s Hill offices to their Basel headquarters in Switzerland.
So, eleven brave men of various fitness levels, but with equal determination and bravery, will leave the starting line here in Berkshire on 15th September and expect to complete their journey in 7 days.
They anticipate burning around 5,000 calories a day and will probably use much of the expansive medical kit of plasters and antiseptic cream.
But it is not just the distance, over 500 miles, but the uphill nature of the journey. From Bracknell to Basel the team will have to climb 5692m. That is the equivalent of cycling up Mount Kilimanjaro!
The team comprise: Mark Greener, Bob Parr-Dobrzanski, Nick Jones, Oliver Cox, Simon Baker, Peter Knowles, Stuart Watson, Clive Boxwell, Simon Hill, Derek Wallace and Alan Raybould.
You will be able to follow the progress of this amazing trip on Radio Bracknell (www.radiobracknell.com) during the course of the 7 days. Reporter Mark Lynch will be giving progress reports on his news bulletins and members of the team will be telephoning the station with regular updates to be broadcast during the Breakfast Show with John Hicks.
If you wish to support this venture in a practical way, there will opportunities which will be announced on Radio Bracknell, Berkshire’s brightest 24/7 music internet radio station.
