Voiceover Man a huge hit on Radio Bracknell's Breakfast Show

Voiceover Man a huge hit on Radio Bracknell's Breakfast Show

Peter Dickson – AKA “Voiceover Man” – has one of the UK’s most recognizable voices. He is the voice of the X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, E4, Family Fortunes, The Paul O’Grady Show, Peter Kaye’s Pop Factor, The Price is Right – and many more great multi award winning shows including HEDZ, which won him a BAFTA this year.

Peter was approached at the beginning of the year by record label, GTI, asking if he would like to make a record. He jumped at the chance and penned something which reflected the nation’s feelings about the credit crunch.

That track is now a hugely popular feature of Radio Bracknell’s Breakfast Show hosted by award-winning presenter John Hicks, probably enhanced by a very funny alleged ”interview” with John Prescott!

The soon to be hit record “What a Bunch of Bankers” was born. Peter has high hopes for the song – saying: “It’s a bit of light hearted nonsense really – but the message behind it is deadly serious. I am watching this country disintegrate before my eyes. It’s worse than anything we have ever witnessed before. We need, as a nation to rekindle that Dunkirk spirit and I hope this song will be our rallying cry”.

Listen in to John’s Breakfast Show to hear the track.

IT business Orcare move to IQ Farnborough

February 26, 2009

Orcare Limited, an IT services company specialising in the travel, transport and healthcare industries today announced a major expansion of business delivering content-managed websites and database applications.

With further growth planned in 2009, the company is moving to new offices to enable the recruitment of new staff to service and support its UK and overseas customers.

The business started from home offices in 2005 by partners Paul Marden and Peter Brett, who met while working together at British Airways. Since becoming a full-time concern in July 2008 Orcare has doubled its customer base, adding clients in Brussels, Paris, Virgin Islands and the UK. January 2009 sees Orcare move to The Hub in IQ Farnborough, the new business park on the edge of London-Farnborough Airport.

Orcare’s Director, Paul Marden, says: “2008 was a busy year for Orcare, founded through a shared passion for delivering high quality IT solutions for the transport and healthcare sectors. We are a growing company, but our plans for expansion can only be met by increasing our workforce, and for that we need the flexibility that The Hub provides.”

Having developed and managed website operations for small business for several years, in 2008 Orcare began specialising in developing websites using Umbraco, an open source Content Management System which makes it easier for businesses to publish their own website content. Mr Marden comments: “Many small companies believe in the “Fit and Forget” website – they invest time and money in setting up new websites, but through lack of skills or technology they fail to keep the site up to date. It’s easy to see that websites that are frequently updated with great content are the ones that appear highest in Google, get the most visitors and ultimately produce the greatest return to the business. Umbraco makes it easy for businesses to publish content on a regular basis in order to keep their sites fresh.”

Last year Orcare worked with a consortium of road safety stakeholders including the Road Safety Foundation, the AA and the RAC Foundation to deliver the Campaign for Safe Road Design website using Umbraco.

Paul comments “Umbraco has proven to be very popular with prospective clients and we now have projects in development using Umbraco for Red Box Media, based in Paris, the European Road Assessment Programme, headquartered in Brussels and British Airways Flying Club in Buckinghamshire.

When asked by Radio Bracknell why Orcare chose Farnborough over Bracknell, Director Paul responded “The decision to move to Farnborough was for a number of practical reasons. My business partner is based in Camberley so it was a toss up between Bracknell & Farnborough/Camberley. As it happens we got a good deal to move into Regus serviced offices in Farnborough which were significantly cheaper than Arlington Square Bracknell. The move also fits in with my main hobby which is private flying, because the office is on Farnborough Airport.”

Bracknell’s M&S to close 5th March

February 25, 2009

Bracknell Town Centre

Up to 25 jobs in Bracknell are under threat as Marks & Spencer announced earlier this month that it will close its Simply Food store in Princess Square.

A total of 27 stored were shortlisted for possible closure; but it has already been confirmed that the Bracknell store will close its doors for the final time on 5th March 2009.

A petition organised by both shoppers and local traders was in vain as the closure was confirmed before the organisers even had an opportunity to submit their displeasure to M&S bosses

Where possible M&S have said that they will try to explore redeployment opportunities into other stores
M&S said it will consult with the 25 staff at the store to discuss “implications of this decision for them personally and to.

Where redeployment is not available, employees will be made redundant and offered appropriate help from M&S to find alternative employment in the local area, the company said.

Steve Rowe, M&S director of Retail, said: “We have consulted fully with staff at the Bracknell Simply Food store, listening carefully to both their views and suggestions, as well as those of the local community.

All issues raised throughout the process were fully considered, but as no proposed alternatives to the store closure have been found to be commercially viable, it was necessary to make this difficult decision.

I would like to thank the team at Bracknell Simply Food for the professional way in which they have handled this process and for their patience as we enter into individual consultation.

We will explore all possible redeployment opportunities and remain committed to avoiding redundancies whereverpossible.

We hope that our valued customers will continue to shop with M&S at one of our alternative local stores such as Camberley and Wokingham, which offer a wide variety of quality M&S products.”

Waitrose has taken 30,000 sq ft of office space in Bracknell to support its headquarters operation in the town.

Property Week’s reporter Jennifer Rigby reports that Waitrose has taken 30,000 sq ft of

office space in Bracknell to support its headquarters operation in the town.

The award-winning retailer needed more space as a result of the reorganisation of its national distribution centre, also based in Bracknell on the same site as its main HQ.

It has taken the space at the nearby Panasonic building in Olbury Road.

Guy Parkes, head of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Western corridor office, who acquired the space for Waitrose, said: ‘We were able to satisfy this urgent requirement very swiftly within two months of receiving instructions.

‘An off market deal was identified at the nearby Panasonic building in Olbury Road, Bracknell where we were able to agree a very flexible lease for three years with a two year break.’

Bracknell MP, Andrew MacKay welcomed the news. “In these dire economic times, any business expanding is to be warmly welcomed. Waitrose is a highly valued local employer” he told Bracknell Radio.
